The 4th of July is always a special time for families to gather together and create memories, as well as recall meaningful life moments. On tomorrow’s Buffalostyle we will chat with two WNY families who are gathering this weekend to recall beloved family members and their very significant memories.
Warren, “Skip” Muck was the All American Boy. Good looking, athletic, easy going, thoughtful and kind, with an ever-ready smile, According to those who knew him, Skip had a nature that made everyone around him feel happy. And so at age 18, when Skip joined the Army to fight in WWII, it seemed perfect that he was assigned to Easy Company. The rest of the story is that Skip and his army brothers were assigned a task that was anything but easy, as these brave soldiers led the charge at Normandy on D-Day. The award-winning HBO mini series, Band of Brothers, tells the story of Easy Company and this week Buffalostyle is honored to welcome Becky Krurnowski, niece of Skip Muck, to tell us more about his inspiring life.
Frederick (Fritz), Preston, Robert and Edward Niland were born and raised in Tonawanda as part of a close-knit family. That closeness became most evident when WWII was declared and the boys decided that they all needed to enlist and serve together. However, their one-for-all connection resulted in great tragedy for the Niland Clan, as both Robert and Preston were killed in action and Edward was MIA and presumed dead. The tragic circumstance left only Fritz alive, with his survival crucial to his family as well as to the American nation. The movie, Saving Private Ryan, is based on the Niland’s tragic loss and we are grateful that Pete Niland will join us to share his remarkable family memories.
This is also the first Saturday of the month, which means that Bass Reeves will be on hand for Download. His guest is Mr. C….a local bluesman with a musical soul that rocks.
And of course, there will be Didya Know fun with Z to round out our hour.
