With temperatures forecasted to dip below 10°F tonight, the WNY Coalition for the Homeless has activated Code Blue, Buffalo’s cold weather emergency plan for the homeless.
The warming shelter is located at The Belle Center (104 Maryland St., corner of Busti & Maryland). It will be open from 8:00 pm tonight through 8:00 am tomorrow morning.
Those who do not have a safe warm place to stay for the night are encouraged to stay the night at the warming shelter. Community members who may know people who do not have a place to stay are encouraged to notify them of the opening of the warming shelter.
The warming shelter will be staffed by trained outreach workers and volunteers. Visitors to the warming shelter will receive a hot meal and will be offered a cot.
Code Blue is activated on nights between November 15 and March 15 when temperatures are forecasted to be below 10°F or 0°F with the wind-chill or there is a National Weather Service declared blizzard.
