Around 2:30pm this afternoon, Gawker published a story about Congressman Chris Lee claiming he sent shirtless pictures of himself to a woman he met through Craigslist. In what is likely the fastest response to a scandal ever, Congressman Lee has already announced he's resigning his seat - less than 4 hours after the story first broke.
According to Gawker, Congressman Lee sent emails to a woman on Craigslist describing himself as a "divorced" "lobbyist" who is a "fit fun classy guy." Lee, of course, is married. The email conversation between Lee and the woman was uneventfu but it clearly revealed Congressman Lee was prowling the internet for encounters.
Lee, who is 46 years old, was considered a rising star in the Republican party. He is married with one child and serves on the powerful Ways and Means Committee. His resignation will open up his seat and could affect the redistricting process for NY.
