“Five Points” on Urban Roots: A Year Round Garden Center on Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Urban Roots, at Five Points is the premier "star" of the intersection where Rhode Island, West Utica, Brayton and Bremen meet on Buffalo's West Side.

While many area garden centers are seasonal operations, that close their doors once the gardens are put to bed in the fall, Urban Roots is determined to keep its doors open as a year-round garden center with things to do and things to buy.

"Visit a garden store all year?" you ask.  "What's the point?"

In order to answer that question, Urban Roots gives you a point-by-point list, as follows:

Point 1.   Holidays!  Give gifts for gardeners galore!  Urban Roots has them, as well as supplies and materials for decorating, holiday plants, and greenery to brighten your environment.

Point 2.  Indoor gardening!  Urban Roots has houseplants in all shapes and sizes, pots, hangers, vases, soil, and supplies of all kinds.  There are also potted herbs for the kitchen gardener.

Point 3.  Winter gardening!  There are bird houses and feeders, seed and supplies for creating and maintaining garden habitats for wildlife and winter beauty, along with tools and products for keeping your garden healthy and protected until spring.

Point 4.  Educational programs!  Learn useful gardening tips in advance of the growing season.  Urban Roots will hold post-holiday and winter-into-spring workshop series that are punctuated with sessions of "Gardener's Give and Take," a round table discussion for gardeners with questions, ideas and knowledge to swap.

Point 5.  Community presence, employment and economic development!  This is an important part of the year round mission of Urban Roots, currently taking new members.  Get involved in a green way.
