Junkies in Town Tonight- Tickets Still Available on Thursday, April 15th, 2010

By: Kristen Becker

One of Buffalo's coolest spaces, Ani DiFranco's Babeville, brings in some of the best music around, and tonight is no different. Canadian Alternative rock band Cowboy Junkies will be performing in Asbury Hall with opener, Lee Harvey Osmond.

The Cowboy Junkies were founded by guitarist/songwriter Michael Timmins and bassist Alan Anton, and were joined by Michael's brother Peter on drums, and sister Margo on vocals. They released their debut album in 1986 through their own label, which caught the eye of RCA Records, who released The Trinity Session in 1988, an album which was recorded inside Toronto's Holy Trinity Church in just one night. The Trinity Session became a cult hit, earning rave reviews from critics and substantial college radio airplay for tracks like "Misguided Angel" and their cover of "Sweet Jane".

Over twenty years and fifteen albums later, the Junkies once again are releasing albums on their own label, Latent Recordings. Their most recent release is Trinity Revisted, a CD/DVD package put together to revisit that iconic Trinity Session recording. Featuring appearances from Ryan Adams, Vic Chesnutt and Natalie Merchant, Trinity Revisited re-examines the songs through the voice of time and experience, and re-imagines them in a new light. In addition to their own recordings, The Junkies are using their label to assist other musicians, including opener Lee Harvey Osmond, who is Tom Wilson, of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings (with a little help from a Junkie or two, another Rodeo King, and a Skydigger or two).
