NIGHT MOVES By Claire Geist:
Spring and summer are the two seasons that are just ooze romance. Flouncing and floating down the runways this season we saw ruffles everywhere from Stella McCartney to Diane Von Furstenberg. Somehow mimicking and emphasizing every movement one makes, ruffles are not just a detail, but a certain charm. This is exactly why a ruffled piece is a great addition to any ensemble worn out on the town dancing.
Ruffles first adorned nobles in the 16th century in Europe. The word Ruffle stems from the word Ruff (this should be italicized), which was a neck piece worn to show status and fashion. Fast-forward to the 18th century when Marie Antoinette made full ruffled dresses a full-time part of her garment repertoire. The 60's and 70's emerged fashionable ruffled shirts for men, made mainstream by musicians such as Jimi Hendrix. Since then, designers have consistently used ruffles and pleats as a way to emphasize the movement of a garment when it is worn.
Try to amp up the romance by opting for slightly more neutral and sweet colors rather than brights. If at all, a bright red is alright. When wearing so much fabric, it's important to keep things perfectly balanced.![]()

This heat wave is perfect weather for the mini dress. The mini is perfect for showing off your legs. We have all acquired some color so far this summer - wearing neutral textured knit dress is a great piece to own. Dresses are much more flattering for your body with age, than wearing shorts. Either way owning a ruffle dress can bring out the flirt in you, or a short mini dress can bring out sexy on these hot summer nights.
I would suggest if you wear a mini choose the right shoes so you don't come off looking like a stripper. Nice wedges, and flats tone down the mini, compared to high spike heals.
