NFL owners and players are set to meet today in Atlanta to discuss the possibility of approving an 18 game season. The plan would be to eliminate two preseason games in order to make room for these two new regular season games.

Steve Hutchinson, Vikings left guard and team union representative expressed his concern over this approval: “”An 18-game schedule is not going to be easy to put in place.” “That’s another eighth of a season they’re going to be asking us to play. The owners got to do what they got to do on their end. But from the union’s standpoint, we have to figure out a way to compensate us for two more games. If it’s cut and dried and there’s two more regular-season games and they figure out the compensation, that’s one thing. But somehow I don’t think that’s going to be the case.” (Source: Star Tribune)

It’s going to be tricky to work this into every player’s contract. Would this mean that everyone’s contract (including coaches, NFL official, stadium crews and game day talent) will have to be reworded to include an 18 game season?

You can be sure this will be one of the biggest issues talked about as the current collective bargaining agreement comes to an end in March.
