Rory Allen , entrepreneur and local business man, a resident of Buffalo’s west side, is announcing his candidacy for New York State Senator, 60th District, after submitting over 2200 signatures from local Democrats; more than twice the number needed to get on the ballot. Most notable is Rory’s own commitment to the petition process whereby he collected over 725 signatures himself going door to door, listening to the voices of his community.
“I saw the petition process as an opportunity to introduce myself to the public and to take the political temperature of the democratic voters in the 60th District. The support for my candidacy is overwhelming. Approximately 97 out of every 100 registered Democrats approached supported my candidacy, most very enthusiastically,” Allen said.
Rory Allen’s candidacy is about Job Creation. He believes he is uniquely qualified to attract businesses to Western New York the same way he has attracted customers to his own vibrant business. ”I will call the executives of businesses throughout the country and ask them what we can do to attract them to Western New York and then I will do that which is required – I will do the hard work! I will be a friend to employers, employees and vote for smart legislation that helps to keep and create jobs.”
In addition to job creation, Allen is a student of New Urban-ism and believes much of what plagues Western New York is a failure to implement infrastructure that positively affects the value of property and its general ability to attract people to want to live and work in this area. ”I am a big fan of urban visionaries James Kunstler and John Norquist and I think Western New York could learn a lot by implementing their strategies. I will always turn to the new urban-ism ideas in the projects that I support and promote. I think people like to blame all of Western New York’s problems on high taxes and dwindling population. Lowering taxes are a start, but the problem also requires a solution that is much more complex and creative.”
Additionally, Allen supports laws that aggressively protect our environment. ”The state should encourage investment and innovation in green technologies, so that we can reduce our reliance on unsustainable, finite resources. I will support any sensible law that encourages homeowners and businesses to receive significant tax breaks to promote energy efficiency.”
