Shake it Up! on Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Some may think of it as "the place where Guy ate," while others appreciate it for its retro vibe. I happen to think it's pretty special since it is the only place in the area I know of where all the beef used in its burgers is not only grass-fed, but also comes straight from a farm in our region (Raisin Acres in Forestville, NY, to be exact).

But it turns out that what might transform everyday people from customers into fans over at Lake Effect Diner is Tuesday. At LED, Tuesday isn't just any ol' day, it's 2-for-1 Shake Day! And for anyone who has ever had a shake at Lake Effect, you know these aren't just any old milkshake. In a day and age where most milkshakes contain no milk or ice cream (we call them 'fakeshakes'), Lake Effect's is hand-dipped, superthick and comes in as many flavors as you can imagine.

Tuesday's 2-for-1 shake day may be one of the best things to happen to the middle of the week.100_3155.jpg

In order to take advantage of the special, you are required to purchase another menu item. Otherwise, LED would have to hire extra hands and carve a 'shake to go' window in the side of the building just to handle the crowd. But you weren't doing anything tonight, anyway, right?

I'll try to give you a run down of the flavors, but there's a good chance I'll forget one or two just because of their sheer number. And if caloric intake is your concern, rest assured they can make these same tasty concoctions with low-fat milk and frozen yogurt. Finally, if you're looking for a really old-fashioned experience, order your favorite flavor malted. As you can see by the image above, we had to grab ours to go, but slurping your shake from a straw while seated on a twirly stool at the long formica-topped lunch counter is really the best way to go. Okay, here goes:

Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, Banana, Root Beer, Coffee, Loganberry, Banana Split, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Strawberry,Chocolate Coffee, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Hawaiian (strawberry, orange, pineapple), Oreo, Mint, Cherry, Black Raspberry, Creamsicle, Chocolate Cherry.
