Tonight: Wine Tasting Benefit Makes Smiles on Monday, July 19th, 2010

Held at Rich's Atrium, the annual Miles for Smiles wine tasting features hors d'oeuvres, live music and more. Tonight's event is organized on behalf of the Cranio Facial Center of Western New York, at Women and Children's hospital, whose program provides health care for children born with cleft lip and cleft palate.

In its 7th year, this wine tasting raises money to assist those struggling with the financial impact of having a child born with this particular defect. As one mother associated with the program told Buffalo Rising, "This organization holds a special place in my heart as my son was born with a cleft palate. My son required surgery to repair the birth defect, and may require another in the future. Many children require several surgeries to correct their defects. We were very fortunate and did not experience many of the common problems associated with these birth defects. Children with cleft lip and palate require a special bottle for feeding. These bottles are $45 a piece! The cost is not covered under any health insurance. Due to this wonderful organization my family did not have to pay for a single one!"

Guests at this worthy fundraiser will have the opportunity to sample over 25 wines, ranging from Italian, German, California, New York State reds and whites, as well as locally brewed wines and cidres. This event was made possible through the support of M&T Bank, Ten Thousand Vines Winery, Southern Wine & Spirits, Premier, Chateau Buffalo, Johnson Estate, Supermarket Liquor & Wines and The Global Group.
