We Did It! on Friday, February 26th, 2010

Moments ago the Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Ice Maze was set in Buffalo NY, beating Toronto's record from '05. The press conference was held in front of the maze as reporters trained their mics and their cameras on a Powder Keg Festival podium... made of ice - thanks to Paul Strada! I would like to send a special shout out to the volunteers who helped to build the labyrinth, many of whom came down to be a part of the ceremony.

Even today there are members of the crew who are having trouble locating the maze's center, where a throne of ice now sits. The horns at the top of the throne are visible from the outside walls... beckoning visitors to venture inside. The 'final' touches were added at midnight last night, including a few ice benches inside the passageways and the precisely cut interior buffalo that took an entire day to complete due to the edge cuts. The exterior and the interior walls will be lit with LEDs.

So this is just about the coolest feature of the festival... ha!

*The ice skating rinks were NOT Completed in time! That means that if you are bringing your skates you will have to make a short Metro Rail trip to Fountain Plaza... just down the way from the festival. We are very sorry to make that announcement... but the rest of the festivities are all still scheduled, including the Seneca Loop Tubing Hill (update to come).
